Angelo L. Scaricamazza is a partner in the Philadelphia office of Naulty, Scaricamazza & McDevitt, LLC and is also a founding member of the firm.
Over the course of his career, Angelo has focused on the defense of insurance companies, their insureds as well as self-insured entities in many areas of liability litigation. He has significant trial experience in the areas of medical malpractice, construction claims and professional liability. Angelo has been at the forefront of several key legal opinions and verdicts in the state of Pennsylvania. In 1993, he obtained the first judgment in favor of a defendant for spoliation of evidence. Additionally, he established a new precedent in products liability law for modifications of a product by a plaintiff’s employer. Angelo also obtained one of the first verdicts on the statute of repose for products liability in Pennsylvania, and he served as counsel for the New York Post in the Jessica Savitch wrongful death lawsuit.
Angelo has served as a Member, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (1996-2002). Angelo is a member of the House of Delegates for the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and formerly served as President for the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel. Angelo served as an elected member on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association from 1996 to 2000. He served six years as a member on the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention, and he is a member of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations as well as the Defense Research Institute.
His community and pro bono service include involvement in the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Volunteers for the Indigent Program (VIP). VIP assists clients with a wide range of legal issues in such areas as child custody and support, immigration, probate and real estate planning and litigation defense. He was a baseball and basketball coach for youth leagues in Radnor Township, and is a Member of the Board for Harbour Cove in Somers Point, New Jersey.
Angelo has spoken to many industry groups and companies, including the Philadelphia Claims Association and the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and has been a frequent lecturer on insurance defense issues for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Presently, he is on the board of the Lawyers Club of Philadelphia. In 2006 and 2007, Super Lawyers magazine placed Angelo in their listing of the "Top 100 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers"; additionally, Angelo has been selected to the "Pennsylvania Super Lawyers" list each year for the past ten years (2005-2014).
A graduate of Temple University, Angelo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972, and received his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in 1976. Angelo served as law clerk to the Honorable James C. Crumlish, Jr., President Judge, Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania (1975-1976) and the Honorable James R. Cavanaugh, Court of Common Pleas, Philadelphia County (1976-1977). He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania as well as the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
